The designation allows the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation to have an opportunity to comment on all projects affecting historic properties. Work in the downtown area has to be approved through the Angola Historic Preservation Commission. The designation also allows property owners certain benefits. Property owners may apply for a 20 percent investment tax credit for rehabilitating historic commercial, industrial or residential rental buildings.
Owners of properties on the National Register also may qualify for federal grants for historic preservation funds.
